Several favoured players, including Men’s Singles third seed Jan O Jorgensen, stumbled at the Li-Ning BWF World Championships yesterday. Here are some images of the day’s action.

Home hope in Men’s Singles, Jan O Jorgensen, succumbed to a knee injury in his third-round match against Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen 21-9 9-4 retd.

England couple Chris and Gabrielle Adcock would have anticipated a better result than a third-round loss in Mixed Doubles to China’s Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin, 21-16 26-24.

Malaysian Men’s Doubles veterans Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong went down fighting in probably their last match together as a pair. The Malaysians lost to Chinese Taipei’s Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin 14-21 21-10 21-19.

China’s Olympic Women’s Doubles champions Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei dismissed Thailand’s Duanganong Aroonkesorn/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul,  21-13 21-12.

India’s Saina Nehwal struggled to overcome Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi 14-21 21-18 21-12 to make the Women’s Singles quarter-finals.

Japan’s Minatsu Mitani sent Women’s Singles defending champion Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) packing with a 8-21 21-12 21-18 upset.

Kim Ki Jung/Kim Sa Rang was one of three Korean Men’s Doubles pairs to advance, with a 21-16 7-21 21-18 verdict over China’s Chai Biao/Hong Wei.

China’s Chen Long dispatched Kidambi Srikanth of India, 21-12 21-10, to move into the quarter-finals.
